John returns to Sydney after absolutely tearing the roof off our party in April 2012 and playing spots all over the world on the back of his killer new release.

M + M Mixes Vol III : NYC Underground Disco Anthems & Unreleased Edits out on BBE RECORDS

John has been involved in the creation of hit DISCO records for the better part of 30 years with over 1000 songs on his own, and as part of John Morales & Sergio Munzibai (M & M Productions). Known in the industry as an innovator and chance taker, John has always welcomed the challenge of working with new artists and can lay claim to being one of the originators of the extended mix, remix and re-edit concept.

Having worked, remixed or edited everyone from Marvin Gaye, Inner Life, Jocelyn Brown, Fantastic Aleems, Teddy Pendergrass, Harold Melvin, Evelyn Thomas, Fantastic Aleems, Brass Construction, War, Candi Staton, Loletta Holloway, First Choice, Salsoul Orchestra & Double Exposure just to name a few, expect John to give a FUNK & DISCO lesson covering 30+ years of the sound that shaped music as we know it today.

We are excited to be also be hosting a very rare afternoon set from Sydney’s own home legendary DJ & Producer Mr Stephen Allkins.

Being one of the true pioneers of dance music in Sydney & playing the the very first disco clubs & warehouse parties from 1978, it is safe to say that Stephen Allkins aka [love] tattoo could rightly claim the trademark of “Mr.Disco”, his extensive record collection & his infamous sets over the years and legacy is also a testament to that.

He first started DJing in the late 70′s and has inspired a whole generation of DJ’s through his infamous sets at warehouse parties, raves and clubs over the years and some absolutely blissful production as [Love-Tattoo]

Expect a very special journey through the disco, funk & early house sounds that matter from the original DJ’s DJ who has seen it and done it all.

SPIRIT OF HOUSE #1: THE STREET PARTY MARCH 18th

In what was a special day, Our House Sydney teamed up with good friends Soul Of Sydney to bring its first installment of  the “Spirit Of House” Block Parties. These parties allow us to pay special tribute to 30+ years of House music and its Funk & Disco roots in FREE family friendly & PEOPLE FRIENDLY out-door locations including car parks, lane-ways, parks, roof-tops and warehouse spaces around town.

The Venue: As you can see in the picture, we didn’t end up in the park for the House Picnic as we originally intended due to some ominous clouds and some pretty temperamental Sydney weather. We did however set up our Sound in this dope inner-city Car Park location smack bang between a Chinese Temple and 3 buildings.

One for the House faithful for sure! Thank you for the support kids and look out for us doing it all again very very soon! Big luv to everyone who came down and especially the DJ’s who donated their time like true champions! ALTON MILLER
Growing up in the 1970s, Miller soaked up the musical environment surrounding him in the Motor City, taking a particular interest in the sounds of Motown, Philadelphia, Parliament-Funkadelic, and Santana. It was during the early ’80s once the “dance music crazed” Alton became friends with a young Derrick May that he decided to start spinning records, citing Chicago DJs such as Ron Hardy and Frankie Knuckles as prime influences.

By the latter part of the same decade, Miller joined forces with George Baker and Chez Damier to start the Music Institute, a short-lived but legendary Detroit club that has since become near-mythical, thanks to the pioneering techno efforts of figures such as May. Following the demise of The Music Institute, Miller took an interest in Conga drumming in addition to DJing, which led to a period between 1989 and 1991 where he toured the world with his music.

He then joined forces once again with May, first as an employee of the artist’s Transmat Records label, then as Aphrodisiac, the title under which he would begin releasing his music. Besides his EP on Transmat’s sublabel Fragile, he also released his music on Kevin Saunderson’s KMS and a series of EPs on Serious Grooves. By the mid to late ’90s, he had increased his presence in the Detroit area through a number of DJ performances and a stream of stunning twelves. His latest album ‘Light Years Away’ had been critically acclamied by the likes of Osunlade, Atjazz and Boddhi Satva

Danny Tenaglia Retirement

Seems apt that the recent retirement of techno/progressive DJ and producer Danny Tenaglia, has seen the photos of his rather unique and expensive loft from 2010 rise again online.

Included are images of over 20,000 vinyls, a 1 ton dub plate machine and many other quirky bits and pieces.

Also posted on the original Deep Absurdum are comments from Danny himself which are worth a chuckle or two.

As spoken by Danny Tenaglia:

“Welcome to the headquarters of DTour Inc., Be Yourself Int. and Stay Tuned Productions.  We have been here since 2001 & I am finally sharing my very private happy space with all of my friends, peers, mentors, colleagues, and fans as well.”

“This is my favorite shot as the lens captured 3 of the 4 stacks. I decided to paint them white and it gave an entirely new energy to the room. It’s all about energy! :-)

Although I do still have all six stacks from the original Shelter, Vinyl, Body & Soul system, I only have four on because 6 would BE way too much! :-0 I can almost hear the Perfect Thunder of The Bass just by looking at this photo! It truly sounds phenomenal. Imagine me preparing my sets here …. and how spoiled I must BE? :-/ ji ji”

“The Disco Ball went up Five Years after me being up here. It was a present to me from Kevin McHugh! The lights on top of the record shelves are now mounted into the ceiling. I sit in that chair under the ball facing the windows and I always wonder if this ball will one day fall right on my head and do me in for good ?? :-0 And what would the newspaper headlines say? LOL”

“records records records and about 20,000 records . . . . . . . . There will never BE enough time to listen to them all . . . .”

“Yes, an original Scully Lathe/Acetate/Dub Plate machine. It weighs almost 1000 pounds and it was nearly impossible to get it delivered up here because we have no elevator. Imagine 4 delivery men screaming their way up the stairs for almost 2 hours! 1 – 2 – 3 AHHHHhhHH!!!!! LOL

Did I forget to mention the fantastic Paradise Garage Neon Sign – designed by PONS! :-) ”

“This side rack has DJ mixers that I’ve collected since the 70′s including an original silver face 1975 Bozak. There is also a Power Mixer, Sound Workshop, Vestax, Rane, Pioneer 800, Pioneer 1000, a custom mixer designed by Marshak Audio which blends UREI & BOZAK all sitting in there like a Museum. THE MAIN MIXER ON SYSTEM OUTSIDE IS A UREI – Naturally! :)

Top left is the original Bozak! 1975! I was 14 years old! (( ouch ))”

“This record explosion is from a couple of years ago. This went on to become the Pro-Tools studio but ultimately became our main office where Bossman Kevin now sits with our chief assistant & dear friend: Alex Perez. All those records are up on IKEA Shelves in a closet.”

“This is my office (and our lounge) that is adjoined with Kevin & Alex’s office, and the other side is the big main boom boom room! And now you all know where all my coins went !!! I’z got good ta$te yo! LOL”

“This is Burchan’s Paradise! We give him water and feed him twice daily with 3 bathroom breaks only! :-xI call him THE BURPORT MASTER!! But we have other secret sources too! ;-x

I love these chairs. They are very JFK Biz Class lounge, Circa 1967! Behind the orange wall (to the right) is the recording studio.”
